New recruitment plan includes investigators, cybersecurity specialists and support staff to clear growing digital crime backlog
The federal government has approved the creation of 838 new positions in the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to strengthen its ability to investigate digital crimes and manage a growing backlog of complaints across Pakistan.
The proposal was initiated by the NCCIA Director General and forwarded through the Ministry of Interior. The Establishment Division has already given its approval, while the case is currently under review by the Finance Division’s Expenditure Wing.
Officials said the expansion has become necessary due to a significant increase in cybercrime cases, which has placed pressure on the agency’s existing workforce and affected its ability to process complaints efficiently.
New workforce to strengthen investigations
The proposed recruitment plan covers technical, legal, investigative and administrative positions at multiple levels.
At the BS-18 level, the agency will receive 32 senior officer positions, including:
- 14 Deputy Directors Investigation
- 7 Deputy Directors Accounts
- 4 Deputy Directors Software
- 4 Deputy Directors Network Security
- 3 Deputy Directors Legal Affairs
At the BS-17 level, another 50 posts will be created, including:
- 31 Assistant Directors Investigation
- 9 Assistant Directors Stress Counselling
- 7 Assistant Directors Legal Affairs
- 3 Assistant Directors Forensics
Officials said these specialised roles will help improve the agency’s capacity to deal with increasingly complex cyber offences involving digital fraud, online harassment, financial scams and technology-related crimes.
More field staff for cybercrime cases
The largest portion of the new positions will focus on investigation and field operations.
The recruitment plan includes:
- 133 Inspectors
- 97 Sub-Inspectors
- 123 Head Constables
- 174 Constables
- 64 Constable Drivers
These additions are expected to expand the agency’s operational strength and improve its ability to respond to complaints from citizens across the country.
Administrative support also included
The expansion package also includes various support positions such as:
- Superintendents
- Technical Assistants
- Steno-typists
- Upper Division Clerks
- Lower Division Clerks
Officials said administrative strengthening is equally important to ensure smoother case management, record keeping and coordination between different NCCIA offices.
Growing need for stronger cybercrime response
Pakistan has witnessed a rapid increase in online crimes in recent years, including financial scams, identity theft, unauthorised access to digital accounts and misuse of social media platforms.
The government has been working to enhance cybercrime enforcement capabilities through institutional reforms, improved digital investigation tools and specialised training.
The proposed expansion of NCCIA is expected to provide additional manpower to investigate cases more effectively, reduce delays and improve public access to cybercrime complaint services.
Once cleared by the Finance Division, the recruitment process will move forward, allowing the agency to build a larger and more specialised workforce to address Pakistan’s evolving digital security challenges.
