Xiaomi to Unveil Xiaomi 17 Series at Barcelona Global Launch Ahead of MWC 2026

By Sabeeh Zanair :

Chinese technology giant Xiaomi has confirmed it will hold its next global launch event in Barcelona on February 28, just days ahead of the annual Mobile World Congress (MWC), where it is expected to unveil its latest flagship smartphone lineup.

The company announced the event on the social media platform X with the tagline, “The New Wave of Imagery is arriving,” a strong hint that the much-anticipated Xiaomi 17 Ultra will make its international debut.

The announcement carries significant weight for markets beyond China, including Pakistan, where Xiaomi typically brings its flagship devices soon after global launches. Local buyers can expect the new lineup to arrive in the region shortly after the Barcelona showcase.

Alongside the premium Ultra model, the standard Xiaomi 17 is also rumored to be launched globally, meaning the company could introduce two flagship phones at the same event. However, not every model is expected to travel. Current expectations suggest the Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max—including a version featuring a distinctive rear display that has garnered attention in the domestic market—will remain exclusive to China.

The Barcelona event is also expected to feature several other products aimed at strengthening Xiaomi’s broader ecosystem. Reports suggest the company will unveil the Xiaomi Pad 8 Pro tablet, the Xiaomi Tag tracking device, and the Xiaomi Watch 5.

When it comes to specifications, recent reports indicate that Xiaomi will keep European pricing in line with previous models. However, there will be some internal differences. Apart from battery size, the global variants are expected to match their Chinese counterparts in terms of features and performance.

The global version of the Xiaomi 17 is said to pack a 6,330 mAh battery, compared to a larger 7,000 mAh unit in China. Similarly, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to feature a 6,000 mAh battery internationally, while the Chinese version carries a bigger 6,800 mAh battery.

The February 28 event will mark Xiaomi’s first major global hardware launch of the year, setting the stage for what the company hopes will be a “new wave” in mobile imaging and ecosystem integration.
