Stripe and Advent International Launch $53 Billion Bid to Acquire PayPal in Major Payments Industry Deal

By Web Desk :

Stripe and private equity firm Advent International have reportedly submitted a more than $53 billion offer to acquire PayPal, a move that could reshape the global digital payments industry if completed.

According to a report by Reuters, the consortium has offered $60.50 per PayPal share, representing a premium of around 28 percent compared with the company’s previous closing price. The proposal is backed by approximately $50 billion in financing commitments from major banks, highlighting the scale of the potential transaction.

PayPal has not publicly commented on the offer so far, and discussions are still at an early stage. There is no certainty that the negotiations will result in a completed acquisition, as both sides would need to agree on terms and secure regulatory approvals.

If the deal moves forward, Stripe and Advent International are expected to jointly take ownership of PayPal, with each holding an equal stake in the company. The proposed structure would keep PayPal operating as a single business rather than breaking it apart or selling individual divisions.

The acquisition would bring together two major players in the digital payments sector. PayPal’s ecosystem includes its online checkout platform and Venmo, one of the most widely used peer-to-peer payment services, while Stripe provides payment infrastructure used by millions of online businesses worldwide.

The potential takeover comes as competition in digital payments continues to intensify, with technology companies, banks and fintech firms investing heavily in faster, simpler and more integrated payment solutions.

Investors reacted positively to the reported offer, pushing PayPal shares nearly 17 percent higher following the news. The jump reflects market expectations that the acquisition could provide new growth opportunities for the company after a period of pressure on its stock performance.

PayPal, once one of the fastest-growing names in financial technology, has faced increasing competition from companies offering digital wallets, instant payments and embedded financial services. Analysts say a potential partnership with Stripe could combine PayPal’s large consumer base with Stripe’s strong position among online businesses.

The deal would become one of the largest acquisitions in the financial technology sector and would require approval from regulators in multiple markets before completion. Industry observers will now be watching whether the early-stage proposal develops into a formal agreement.
