Apple’s First Foldable iPhone Could Face Supply Limits After 2026 Launch

By Web Desk :

Apple’s first foldable iPhone is expected to mark one of the company’s biggest hardware changes in years, but early buyers may face limited availability and delays before they can place orders, according to industry reports.

The foldable device, reportedly part of Apple’s upcoming iPhone Ultra lineup, could be unveiled alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series in September 2026. However, manufacturing challenges may prevent Apple from opening pre-orders immediately after launch.

Analysts and supply-chain sources suggest that the company could initially release the device in limited quantities due to the complexity of producing foldable displays and advanced components.

Limited Supply Could Drive High Demand

Reports indicate that Apple may begin shipping the foldable iPhone during the final quarter of 2026 rather than immediately after its announcement.

Despite its expected premium price, estimated between $2,300 and $2,500, demand is expected to remain strong among Apple customers interested in the company’s first foldable smartphone.

Some analysts warn that limited availability could create opportunities for resellers, with unofficial market prices potentially rising significantly above Apple’s official retail price.

One estimate suggests Apple could ship between 7 million and 8 million foldable iPhone units by the end of 2026, although production figures remain unconfirmed.

Other reports have suggested Apple may increase manufacturing targets, with some supply-chain estimates placing production at around 10 million iPhone Ultra units in 2026.

Expected Foldable iPhone Features

Although Apple has not officially confirmed details, several reports have outlined possible specifications for the company’s first foldable smartphone.

The device is expected to feature:

  • A 7.76-inch internal foldable display
  • A 5.49-inch external cover screen
  • Apple’s next-generation A20 Pro chip
  • 12GB of RAM
  • A battery capacity of around 5,500mAh

The foldable iPhone is also expected to focus on a premium design, combining the portability of a traditional smartphone with the larger screen experience of a tablet.

Apple Enters Competitive Foldable Market

The launch would place Apple in competition with companies such as Samsung, Huawei and other smartphone makers that have already introduced foldable devices.

While rivals have spent several years developing foldable technology, Apple’s entry could significantly influence the market due to the company’s large global customer base and ecosystem of products.

However, Apple is known for taking a cautious approach when introducing new product categories. The company typically focuses on refining technology, improving durability and creating a polished user experience before entering emerging markets.

Official Details Still Awaited

Apple has not confirmed the existence, launch date or specifications of a foldable iPhone. As a result, reported features and production estimates should be considered unconfirmed until the company makes an official announcement.

If launched successfully, the foldable iPhone could represent a major shift in Apple’s smartphone strategy and potentially accelerate mainstream adoption of foldable devices worldwide.
