The Punjab government has introduced a new mobile application that allows families of prisoners to schedule jail visits online, removing the need to wait in long queues at prison facilities.
The digital platform is part of the provincial government’s wider efforts to expand e-governance services and improve public access to government facilities through technology.
Under the new system, family members can select a suitable date and time for their visit through the application before arriving at the prison. Visitors will then be able to meet prisoners during their allocated time slot, reducing waiting periods and improving the overall process.
Technology Aims to Improve Prison Management
Officials said the application will help make the prison visitation system more organised, transparent and efficient.
Previously, families often had to visit prison facilities in person to arrange meetings, which could involve long waiting times and administrative delays. The new digital process is expected to reduce overcrowding at visitation centres while allowing prison authorities to better manage daily visitor schedules.
Authorities believe the system will also improve security and discipline by creating a structured record of scheduled visits.
Part of Punjab’s Digital Transformation Drive
The Punjab government has been increasingly introducing technology-based solutions across different departments to improve service delivery.
Officials said digital platforms are being developed to provide citizens with faster access to government services, reduce paperwork and increase transparency.
The new prisoner meeting application represents another step towards digitising public services, allowing citizens to complete essential tasks remotely instead of relying on traditional administrative procedures.
The government said further technology-based initiatives are expected as part of its broader plan to create a more efficient and citizen-focused digital governance system in Punjab.
