Pakistan’s cyber security authorities have warned of potential digital attacks targeting sensitive government infrastructure, urging immediate precautionary measures across federal institutions.
The advisory was issued by National Computer Emergency Response Team Pakistan (National CERT), which has directed ministries and departments to strengthen cyber defences and enhance real-time monitoring of their networks amid rising threat levels.
Heightened risk around key dates
Officials said the alert comes in response to an increased risk of cyber intrusions, particularly around the anniversary of “Marka-e-Haq”, when government systems may face coordinated attacks.
Authorities cautioned that critical infrastructure and official networks could be targeted, prompting a nationwide push to improve cybersecurity readiness.
Urgent preventive measures
The advisory outlines several immediate steps for government departments, including installing the latest security patches, updating software systems and tightening access controls to block unauthorised entry.
Institutions have also been instructed to enforce stronger authentication protocols, such as multi-factor authentication, and to ensure regular password updates.
In addition, departments are required to maintain secure data backups and establish recovery plans to minimise disruption in case of an attack.
Focus on phishing and rapid response
Officials highlighted the continued threat posed by phishing campaigns and malware, urging staff to avoid suspicious emails, links and attachments.
Government entities have been told to remain on high alert and ensure rapid response mechanisms are in place. Any unusual or suspicious activity must be reported immediately to the national cyber emergency response team.
Growing digital security concerns
The warning reflects broader concerns over increasing cyber threats globally, as governments face more sophisticated attempts to breach digital infrastructure.
Officials said the latest advisory is part of routine preventive efforts aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s resilience against evolving cyber risks and protecting critical national systems.
