A Major Digital Change is Coming to Petrol Pumps Across Pakistan

By Malik Shahzad Aslam :

The Petroleum Division is rolling out a modern track and trace system to curb smuggling at petrol pumps and across the fuel supply chain. The system is designed to monitor fuel movement and improve oversight at multiple levels of distribution.

The “Rahguzar” mobile application has been launched to provide verified information on legal petrol pumps. The app allows consumers to identify approved and registered fuel stations, helping them avoid unlicensed outlets.

To ensure effective monitoring of oil tankers, a joint track and trace system has been developed in collaboration between the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority and the Punjab Information Technology Board. Under this system, fuel tankers, terminals, and retail outlets are being linked through an integrated digital network.

Automated tank gauges and digital nozzles will be installed at petrol pumps to ensure accurate monitoring of fuel quantity and quality. In addition, the Directorate General of Petroleum Concessions will introduce a new online portal to digitize and improve transparency in the bidding process for oil and gas exploration and production blocks.

The Petroleum Division said an explosives track and trace system has been activated to monitor explosive materials. The system tracks the explosives supply chain in real time, with two phases of the project already completed successfully.

Separately, the Sindh government announced financial assistance for traders affected by fire incidents.

To strengthen enforcement against illegal petroleum products, amendments have been made to the Act of 1934. The changes introduce provisions for heavy fines and confiscation in cases involving the illegal sale and transportation of petroleum products.
