PTA issued an urgent warning about fake UAN numbers being used in scam calls

By Tanveer Ahmed :

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an urgent warning to the public about fake UAN numbers being used in scam calls. These calls often appear to come from official helpline numbers of banks telecom operators or government agencies but they are being spoofed by fraudsters to deceive citizens.

Scammers use these fake UAN numbers to trick people into sharing sensitive information including OTP codes CNIC details PINs passwords and biometric information. Some also send links to phishing websites designed to steal personal and financial data. PTA emphasized that official UANs and helpline numbers never make such calls and any request for confidential information through phone is fraudulent.

The PTA has urged citizens to be vigilant and cautious. People are advised to never share personal or financial information over the phone and to ignore or report suspicious calls immediately. This warning comes amid an increase in phone scams targeting Pakistanis nationwide exploiting the trust in official UAN numbers.

Authorities continue to monitor and track scam call operations and PTA encourages the public to report any fake numbers or suspicious activity to the official complaint channels. The agency is committed to protecting consumers from telecom related fraud and ensuring a safe communication environment for everyone.
