Google’s next budget smartphone, the Pixel 11a, could receive one of its biggest upgrades yet, according to a new leak that points to a more powerful processor, a brighter display and improvements to battery and camera hardware.
Although Google has not officially confirmed any details, early reports suggest the Pixel 11a will be powered by the Tensor G6 chipset instead of an older-generation processor. If accurate, the move would represent a significant performance boost over the Pixel 10a and bring Google’s affordable smartphone closer to its flagship Pixel lineup.
Previous industry reports indicate that the Tensor G6 could become Google’s first processor manufactured using a 2-nanometre process, potentially delivering better performance and improved power efficiency. The leak suggests that the Pixel 11a may feature a lower-binned version of the chip while retaining key components such as the MediaTek M90 modem and the Titan M3 security chip found in the Pixel 11 series.
The leaked specifications also claim the handset carries the internal codename “Formosan” and will feature a 6.3-inch Full HD (1080p) display. The screen is reportedly capable of reaching 2,250 nits of typical peak brightness and as much as 3,350 nits under peak conditions, while also supporting HDR content.
Google is expected to retain 8GB of RAM on the base model, continuing its approach of offering flagship-inspired software features on mid-range hardware. Battery capacity is reported to be at least 4,870mAh, although the final marketed capacity could remain around 5,000mAh depending on Google’s final design.
The combination of a more efficient processor and a large battery could result in improved battery life, an area where Google’s recent Pixel A-series devices have generally performed well.
Another part of the leak points to a redesigned front-facing camera, although no technical specifications have been revealed. The camera is reportedly identified internally by the codename “dokkaebi”, suggesting Google may introduce new imaging hardware or software features.
Photography has traditionally been one of the Pixel A-series’ strongest selling points. Even with mid-range hardware, Google’s computational photography has consistently helped its affordable smartphones compete with more expensive rivals.
The Pixel 11a is also expected to launch in four colour options: Black, Green, Purple and Silver, giving buyers a wider range of finishes than previous generations.
If the leaked specifications prove accurate, the Pixel 11a would represent a notable step forward for Google’s budget smartphone lineup, particularly with the inclusion of next-generation processing technology. However, all reported specifications remain unofficial, and Google has not commented on the rumours.
Industry observers expect the Pixel 11a to be unveiled around March 2027, in line with the company’s typical release schedule for its A-series devices. Until then, the reported features should be treated as speculation rather than confirmed product details.
The Pixel A-series has become one of Google’s most successful smartphone ranges by offering flagship-inspired software, long-term Android updates and advanced camera capabilities at a more affordable price. If these leaks are accurate, the Pixel 11a could continue that strategy while narrowing the gap between Google’s budget and premium smartphones.
