New digital system aims to reduce waiting times and improve service delivery for identity card applicants

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has introduced tablet-based service counters at its Mega Centres in Karachi as part of efforts to modernise identity registration services and reduce waiting times for citizens.

The new digital counters are designed to speed up the Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC) application process by allowing applicants to complete key registration steps more efficiently, easing congestion at some of NADRA’s busiest facilities.

Faster registration process

According to NADRA, the tablet-based system is intended to streamline customer service by reducing paperwork and improving the overall registration workflow.

The authority said the initiative will help minimise long queues while enabling staff to process applications more quickly, particularly during peak operating hours.

The move forms part of NADRA’s ongoing digital transformation strategy aimed at making public services faster, more accessible and easier to use.

Citizens welcome the initiative

Visitors to the Karachi Mega Centres have welcomed the introduction of the new technology, saying it has noticeably shortened waiting times and simplified the registration process.

Applicants reported that the tablet-assisted system allows officials to collect and verify information more efficiently than the previous workflow, resulting in quicker processing of CNIC-related services.

The improvement is expected to benefit thousands of people who visit Mega Centres each week for identity registration, renewals and other documentation services.

Part of NADRA’s digital transformation

The introduction of tablet-based counters reflects NADRA’s broader efforts to modernise public service delivery through digital technologies.

In recent years, the authority has expanded a range of online and technology-driven services, including digital identity verification, mobile registration facilities and electronic document management, to improve accessibility and operational efficiency.

Officials say the latest initiative is another step towards creating a more citizen-focused registration system capable of handling
