Sindh digitises property tax collection through e-Stamping system

By Sabeeh Zanair :

The Sindh government has launched a digital system for collecting Immovable Property Tax (IPT), integrating it into the Board of Revenue’s e-Stamping platform in a bid to improve transparency and efficiency.

The initiative, developed with support from the Sindh Information Technology Company, allows property-related taxes to be processed online, reducing reliance on manual procedures and physical documentation.

Speaking at the signing of a memorandum of understanding, Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah said the move would help curb corruption while simplifying the tax collection process. The agreement brings together the Board of Revenue, local government and IT departments, along with major financial institutions including Sindh Bank, National Bank of Pakistan and Bank of Punjab.

Officials say the platform has already processed more than one million challans and generated over Rs18 billion in revenue since its rollout in September 2025, operating through hundreds of bank branches across the province.

Under the new system, IPT will be automatically calculated at one per cent of the property’s value and included within the e-Stamping challan, eliminating the need for separate documentation.

Authorities say the integration of municipal taxes with the digital platform will streamline property transactions, making them faster and more accessible while strengthening the financial capacity of local councils.

The government says the initiative is part of a broader push to modernise public services through digital transformation, aiming to create a more transparent and accountable revenue system for citizens.
