WhatsApp tests new logout feature for Android to simplify account management

By Tanveer Ahmed :

WhatsApp is developing a logout option for Android devices, aimed at allowing users to sign out of the app without deleting their account or losing chats. The feature has been spotted in the latest beta release for Android (version 2.26.11.5) and is designed to make account management more straightforward.

Currently, WhatsApp does not offer a dedicated logout button on smartphones. Users wishing to stop using the app must either delete it, clear app data, or remove their account entirely processes that can be time-consuming and confusing.

The upcoming logout option would let users temporarily sign out and log back in later without affecting their messages, media, or account settings. This functionality could also make switching between multiple accounts on a single device easier, benefiting users who manage separate numbers for personal and work conversations.

Reports from WhatsApp beta trackers indicate that the feature will guide users through the logout process and explain what happens to their data and chats, aiming to provide a clearer and more user-friendly experience.

The logout feature remains under testing in the Android beta, and WhatsApp has not announced a global release date. If implemented widely, the update could become one of the most practical usability improvements, particularly for users who frequently switch devices or manage multiple accounts.
