Pakistan Launches Subsidy Program for Students, Youth, and Women to Own Electric Bikes

By Sabeeh Zanair :

The government has rolled out a major initiative under the Prime Minister’s Personal Electric Vehicle (PEV) scheme, allowing students, youth, and women to purchase electric bikes through easy installment plans, with subsidies being transferred directly to eligible beneficiaries.

Hamad Ali Mansoor, CEO of the Engineering Development Board, announced that a total of 116,000 electric vehicles will be supported under the program. In the first phase, subsidies have already been disbursed for 41,000 vehicles, including 40,000 electric bikes and 1,000 electric rickshaws and loaders.

The second phase aims to provide financial support for over 78,000 additional electric vehicles, as part of the government’s push to encourage eco-friendly transportation and empower youth and women. For 2026, approximately PKR 9 billion has been allocated for this initiative.

Registration through the official PEV portal is mandatory, with applicants required to submit complete information online. The process is fully digital, ensuring transparency and fairness for all participants.

Officials believe the scheme will not only enhance personal mobility but also promote sustainable transport, support green initiatives, and empower young and female citizens across Pakistan.
