The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued a warning to the public amid a growing surge in scam calls and online fraud, urging citizens to remain vigilant and avoid sharing personal or financial information with unknown callers.
In an advisory, the PTA said fraudsters are increasingly using deceptive tactics, including fake prize winnings and urgent requests, to trick people into clicking malicious links or revealing sensitive details. These scams often result in financial losses and identity misuse.
According to the authority, scammers commonly impersonate officials or companies and ask victims to share bank account details, passwords, or verification codes under false pretenses. The PTA stressed that legitimate institutions never request confidential information through unsolicited calls or messages.
The regulator advised citizens to immediately report any suspicious calls or messages. Complaints can be filed through PTA’s official complaint portal or via the PTA CMS mobile application for swift action.
For cybercrime-related cases, the public has been advised to contact the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) through its helpline 1799. Incidents involving financial or mobile banking fraud should be reported to the State Bank of Pakistan helpline at 111 727 273.
The PTA emphasized that early reporting and public awareness are crucial in minimizing financial damage and protecting digital security.
