Islamabad:The Islamabad Excise and Taxation Department has announced the introduction of a US-style vehicle registration system, shifting from vehicle-based to owner-based registration. A formal notification has been issued to implement the new model.
According to the notification, each owner will receive a proprietary number plate permanently linked to their name. The policy will apply to both new and existing vehicles. Upon the sale of a vehicle, the previous number will be canceled and a new registration number will be issued to the new owner.
The notification further states that an owner can retain their registration number for up to one year even without owning a vehicle. If the number is not assigned to any vehicle within a year, it will be canceled.
The initiative, outlined in a notification issued by the Director General of Excise and Taxation Islamabad, aims to enhance transparency and convenience in the vehicle registration process.
