NADRA Temporarily Suspends Services at 68 Remote Centers Due to Satellite Maintenance

By Tanveer Ahmed :

Technical work on satellite links will interrupt registration services for 90 minutes in several regions

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has announced a temporary suspension of services at 68 registration centres across remote areas of Pakistan due to scheduled satellite maintenance.

The service interruption will take place on Thursday, 9 July 2026, from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM, during which affected centres will be unable to access NADRA’s central database systems.

According to the authority, the affected registration centres depend on satellite communication links to connect with NADRA’s main servers. These satellite connections will remain unavailable during the maintenance period, resulting in a temporary halt of operations.

The suspension will mainly affect centres located in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), where satellite connectivity is used to provide identity registration services in areas with limited conventional communication infrastructure.

NADRA said the maintenance work is part of routine efforts to improve the reliability and performance of its communication network, particularly for facilities operating in geographically challenging locations.

The authority has apologised to citizens for the inconvenience and advised people planning visits to the affected centres to schedule their appointments outside the maintenance window.

Maintaining services in remote regions

NADRA operates thousands of registration centres across Pakistan, including facilities in mountainous and remote regions where maintaining stable connectivity remains a major challenge.

Satellite-based links play an important role in ensuring residents of distant areas can access essential identity services, including applications for Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs), child registration certificates and other official documents.

The latest temporary suspension is expected to affect only a limited period, with services scheduled to resume once the satellite maintenance activity is completed.

Officials said such technical upgrades are necessary to strengthen digital infrastructure and ensure smoother operations for citizens relying on NADRA services nationwide.
