Apple activates 5G support for iPhones in Pakistan in boost to telecom sector

By Ariz Riaz :

Apple has officially enabled 5G support for iPhones in Pakistan through its latest software update, marking a significant development for the country’s expanding digital and telecommunications sector.

The update allows compatible iPhone devices to access 5G services offered by Pakistani telecom operators, including Jazz and Zong, according to industry officials.

Telecom sources said iPhone models from the iPhone 12 Pro Max onwards would now support 5G connectivity in Pakistan after users install the latest iOS 26.5 update. The move is expected to accelerate the rollout and adoption of next-generation mobile internet services across the country.

The activation of 5G compatibility on Apple devices has long been awaited by Pakistani users, particularly as telecom operators continue expanding infrastructure and testing high-speed networks in major cities. Industry experts say Apple’s decision reflects growing international recognition of Pakistan’s evolving digital ecosystem and improving telecommunications framework.

Fifth-generation mobile technology, commonly known as 5G, offers significantly faster internet speeds, reduced latency and more reliable connectivity compared with previous mobile network standards. Analysts say the technology has the potential to transform several sectors, including education, healthcare, finance and digital commerce.

Consumers using supported iPhone models are expected to experience improvements in video streaming quality, online gaming performance, cloud computing applications and business communication services. The technology could also support wider use of artificial intelligence tools, smart devices and remote working platforms.

Telecommunications analysts believe Apple’s latest update may encourage broader consumer interest in 5G-enabled smartphones and push mobile operators to further strengthen network infrastructure in preparation for large-scale commercial adoption.

Pakistan has been gradually advancing towards full 5G implementation as part of wider efforts to modernise the digital economy and improve internet accessibility. Authorities recently conducted a 5G spectrum auction that generated substantial revenue for the government and signalled renewed momentum in the sector.

The country’s IT and telecom industry has increasingly been viewed as a key driver of economic growth, with officials aiming to expand digital services, increase technology exports and attract foreign investment into Pakistan’s technology sector.

Experts say wider availability of 5G-compatible devices, particularly premium smartphones such as iPhones, could play an important role in speeding up Pakistan’s digital transformation and strengthening confidence in the country’s telecommunications market.
