The leak, reportedly discovered within Samsung’s One UI 9 software, appears to show two foldable handsets, including the expected Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a previously unknown model believed to be called the “Samsung Wide Fold”.
While the leaked material consists of internal graphic renders rather than real-world photographs, the images have offered technology enthusiasts an early glimpse into what could become Samsung’s latest attempt to expand its foldable smartphone lineup.
The most striking difference between the two devices appears to be their physical shape and proportions.
According to the leaked graphics, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 largely maintains the familiar book-style foldable design seen in earlier Fold models, although the handset appears slimmer and more refined than its predecessors.
The wider model, however, stands out because of its noticeably broader frame. Analysts believe the design suggests Samsung may be experimenting with a foldable device that delivers a more tablet-like experience once unfolded.
The larger horizontal layout could make multitasking, video streaming and reading easier, potentially appealing to users seeking a hybrid between a smartphone and a compact tablet.
Industry observers say the approach highlights Samsung’s continuing efforts to evolve the foldable category beyond traditional smartphone designs as competition intensifies in the premium mobile market.
The leak also points to differences in camera hardware between the two devices. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to retain a triple rear camera setup similar to previous flagship Fold models, while the Wide Fold may feature a dual-camera system instead.
Although a reduced camera configuration could appear less premium, analysts suggest Samsung may be balancing hardware choices to accommodate the device’s larger display format or target a different price segment.
Early reports linked to the leak indicate that the Wide Fold could feature a powerful next-generation processor, potentially the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, alongside memory options of up to 16GB RAM.
The device is also rumoured to include a 5.4-inch external display and a larger 7.6-inch foldable inner screen. Additional reports suggest the handset may carry high-resolution rear cameras alongside a standard front-facing selfie camera.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is expected to focus more on performance refinements rather than a major redesign. Rumoured upgrades include improved battery capacity and faster charging speeds, areas where foldable devices have often faced criticism compared with conventional flagship smartphones.
Samsung has not officially confirmed the existence of the Wide Fold or the leaked specifications. However, the discovery within the company’s own software has fuelled speculation that development of the device may already be at an advanced stage.
The South Korean technology giant has remained one of the leading players in the foldable smartphone market since introducing its first Galaxy Fold device in 2019. Despite early durability concerns and high prices, foldable phones have gradually gained traction among consumers seeking larger screens and multitasking features in portable devices.
Analysts say Samsung is now facing increasing pressure from Chinese smartphone makers, including Huawei, Oppo and Honor, all of which have expanded aggressively into the foldable segment in recent years.
With Samsung’s next major hardware event expected around July, attention is likely to remain focused on whether the company introduces an entirely new foldable category alongside its established Galaxy Z series devices.
