Pakistan’s telecom sector is moving closer to the launch of 5G services, with Jazz taking further steps to prepare its network and users for the transition.
The operator has confirmed that six Samsung smartphones are now certified as compatible with its upcoming 5G network, signalling progress towards commercial rollout. The approved models include the Galaxy A37, A55 and A57, along with the flagship Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra.
The move comes as mobile internet usage continues to rise sharply across Pakistan, driven by video streaming, online gaming and remote working. Industry analysts say this surge in demand is putting pressure on existing 4G infrastructure, increasing the need for faster speeds and lower latency that 5G technology promises to deliver.
Officials say device compatibility will play a crucial role in the success of 5G adoption. Even where network coverage is available, users will require smartphones that support the relevant frequency bands to access improved performance.
By identifying supported devices in advance, Jazz aims to ensure a smoother transition for customers when services go live. The certification covers both mid-range and premium devices, suggesting an effort to reach a broad segment of users.
While the latest update focuses on Samsung, Jazz has already approved a wider range of 5G-capable devices from other manufacturers. The company says it is working to expand its device ecosystem so more users can access next-generation services without needing immediate upgrades.
Pakistan has yet to fully roll out 5G, but telecom providers have been gradually upgrading infrastructure and testing compatibility as part of wider digital transformation efforts.
