NCCIA Issues Nationwide Warning as Cyber Harassment Cases Surge in 2026

By Tanveer Ahmed :

The National Cyber Crimes Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has officially issued a high-priority advisory to combat the surge in digital abuse across Pakistan. The agency is urging citizens to break their silence and utilize legal channels to stop online predators.

Defining the Threat: What Constitutes Cyber Harassment?

The NCCIA’s latest alert clarifies that harassment in the digital age is a broad criminal category. Activities that are now being strictly monitored and prosecuted include:

  • Intimidation: Sending threatening, abusive, or hateful messages.

  • Sexual Misconduct: Unsolicited sexual advances or digital stalking.

  • Blackmail: Using personal data or secrets to extort victims.

  • Non-Consensual Sharing: Distributing private photos or videos (deepfakes or real) without permission.

  • Character Assassination: Launching organized smear campaigns or spreading malicious rumors.

Action Plan: How to Protect Yourself

The agency has outlined a four-step protocol for anyone facing online abuse:

  1. Secure Your Digital Footprint: Minimize the amount of personal data, location tags, and private photos shared publicly.

  2. Preserve the Trail: Never delete abusive content immediately. Take screenshots, save voice notes, and export chat logs to be used as legal evidence.

  3. Cut Off the Offender: Immediately use “Block” and “Report” tools on social media platforms to prevent further contact.
  4. Legal Recourse: Report the incident to the NCCIA. The agency emphasized that victims are entitled to full legal protection under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).

Official Stance: “Cyber harassment is not just a social issue; it is a serious criminal offense that causes profound psychological trauma. Remaining silent only empowers the harasser.” — NCCIA Advisory Statement.
